DANCER ON THE VERANDA

COVID lockdowns with no place to practice, a dancer finds refuge on an outdoor veranda.

‘An incredible film for many reasons and a historical window into this period of time.’

THE BACK STORY

Since the onset of COVID-19 the potential for transformation has never been clearer. Working outdoors on the veranda, the local residents expressed a great desire to connect with Annalouise and the spirituality that comes with dancing.

Joggers, boaties, dogs and children stopped to chat, happily interrupting, and a little boy on a scooter who asked, ‘Are you making a show? For everybody?

Ten months later, the show “Flamenco for Everybody” was born and is now touring regionally.

May I take a photo of your feet? I need some inspiration at this time’ a woman asked. Susan Wyndham wrote this meeting in the Sydney Morning Herald.

“Such an inspiring personal story. As for the boy on the scooter - he now knows that dance is for everyone.”

“Congratulations Annalouise for devising a novel way to dance during Covid, bringing dance right into the community, and for refusing to be invisible despite the government’s obstinate back turn on the arts. As for the boy on the scooter - he may not come back - but he now knows that dance is for everyone.”
