MY DARLINGHURST by Sarah Gilbert
During 2022, I was interviewed for a wonderful podast project faciltated by Sarah Gilbert, a writer and podcast producer.
I was thrilled to invited by Sarah, to share my stories. I loved her vision and non-intrusive approach to oral history telling.
Sarah Gilbert conducted nineteen interviews with people across a range of backgrounds, ages and life experience all of whom are connected by their relationship with Darlinghurst. Their stories and memories form part of a new collection at the State Library of New South Wales and she brings them together in a chapter of the book My Darlinghurst. The oral histories tell us what makes Darlinghurst special and what matters to the people who live there - things like community, connection, creativity, celebration and fun.
In 2024, My Darlinghurst was printed into a large coffee table book, which includes excerpts of my interview. The book was launched at the Paul Ramsey Foundation in Darlinghurst, Sydney. The podcast interviews are held in the NSW State Library.
Sarah Gilbert is a podcast producer at UTS, a writer and a flamenco enthusiast. She was awarded a State Library Oral History Fellowship to undertake the project during 2021-2022.
